Those who love Halloween always seem be in an arms race to have the best, most terrifying, and most realistic decorations. That means that we have become desensitized to graphic displays around Halloween.
This could explain what just happened in Chillicothe, Ohio. When construction workers saw a woman's body hanging on a fence near their worksite, they thought it was part of a Halloween prank...until they touched the corpse.
The body was found in the early morning hours by a group of laborers heading to work.
According to police, several people had walked by the body that morning without paying any mind to the situation. "I thought somebody was playing a prank on the construction workers, and I told my daughter it was just a dummy," said one neighbor. "It was so awful."
After police arrived on the scene, they discovered that it was the body of 31-year-old Rebecca Cade (pictured below).
Medical examiners discovered that she'd died from blunt force trauma to the head. A bloodied rock was found near the body, and investigators believe that this was the murder weapon.
Not long after Cade's body was found, police arrested who they believe to be the killer.
Charged with the murder was 27-year-old Donnie Cochenour. He is currently being held on $2 million bail.
That is horribly tragic. Being murdered in cold blood is bad enough, but having dozens of people walk by thinking that your body is just a Halloween decoration is heartbreaking. I think that speaks volumes about the state of humanity at this point.
