Mike is ViralNova's resident Editor of the Weird. If it makes you say "OMG! That's terrible!!!" then Mike probably wrote it. Despite the subject of his articles Mike is surprisingly well adjusted. When he's not writing, he's making music, performing, and producing podcasts.

Twitter is no longer the weird thing that tech geeks use to communicate their inner feelings. It's an essential part of everyday life for millions of people. While the social messaging service has only grown in popularity over the years, there's something eerie about stream-of-consciousness sharing on social media.

Think about it. If you meet an unexpected, untimely end, your last tweet could very well be a written record of your final thoughts. That was certainly the case for these people, all of whom tweeted just hours before they died.

1. Greg Plitt

Plitt was a star on Bravo's Work Out and Friends to Lovers. The 37-year-old was killed when he was struck by a train.

2. Nolan Burch

The teen from New York passed away at West Virginia University after what campus officials called a "catastrophic medical emergency" at a frat house.

3. Dan Fredinburg

Fredinburg was a Google engineer who died of head injuries back in April during a massive avalanche on Mount Everest.

4. Leonard Nimoy

The Star Trek star's final tweet might just capture the essence of being human.

5. Darryl Hamilton

Hamilton, a former baseball player, was found dead along with his wife in an apparent murder-suicide.

6. Joshua Ozersky

The 47-year-old New York Times food critic was found dead in his hotel room while on a trip to Chicago.

7. Wayne Dyer

Author and motivational speaker Dr. Dyer died from cancer at age 75.

8. Roddy Piper

Wrestling star "Rowdy" Roddy Piper died at the age of 61. His family said he passed peacefully in his sleep.

9. Jason McCash

This local Indianapolis musician was called a "titan of metal" while he was alive. He died at age 37 of unknown causes.

10. Anja Niedringhaus

Accomplished German AP photographer Anja Niedringhaus was shot and killed by police in Afghanistan. The shooter was a Taliban supporter.

11. John Pinette

Comedian John Pinette died of a pulmonary embolism at age 50.

12. Sonny Miller

This famous surfing filmmaker died of a heart attack at just 53 years old.

13. Karl Harris

This champion British motorcycle driver died when he crashed during the final lap of a race. He was 34.

14. Jaylen Fryberg

The popular high school sports star opened fire on his fellow students in the cafeteria. Fryberg killed one person before turning the gun on himself.

15. Kate von Roeder

Von Roeder's final tweet links to a heartbreaking suicide note left on Facebook. It detailed her struggles with her sexuality.

16. Debby Constantino

Debby Constantino was kidnapped and killed by her husband after a three-hour standoff with police.

My heart goes out to the families of these people. I suppose a quick and sudden death might be the best kind. Then again, when all that's left is your Twitter feed, maybe it'd be better to have more time to craft a more meaningful message.
