Crocodiles and hippos — two massive monsters that are basically tied for first when it comes to being the most fearsome river-dwelling creatures on Earth. While crocodiles are more obvious in their ability to instill terror, hippos are actually quite dangerous as well. Their powerful jaws have been known to chomp adult crocs in two.
But one photo taken by a tourist who was exploring the Mediterranean shows what many believe to be a croc-hippo hybrid.
Scotsman Harvey Robertson was visiting Greece when he spotted this bizarre creature just outside of a sea cave.
It looks like it's part hippo, part crocodile, and maybe even part dolphin.
Many have pointed out that the creature resembles Ammit -- a demon in Egyptian mythology that was a cross between a hippo, a crocodile, and a lion.
She is cheerfully nicknamed "Devourer of the Dead," "Eater of Hearts," and "Great Death." That sounds about right.
Many are shocked by this potential mingling of species, but I'm not.
Crocodile males have historically had a strong desire for hippo women. It is a known fact.
In all actuality, this is probably just a deformed hippo or a really bad picture of a dolphin. In any case, it gives us hope that the next Fantasia movie will once again feature the hippos and crocs that we all know and love.
